The Bose Beam Line Challenge: Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists

The Bose Beam Line Challenge invites school and undergraduate students to embark on a thrilling journey into the world of particle physics. This initiative is inspired by the internationally renowned Beamline for Schools (BL4S) challenge, organized by CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva, Switzerland, and DESY, the German Electron Synchrotron in Hamburg, Germany. We are very proud of the winning team from India – Poddar School Mumbai in 2018, which inspires us to support aspiring students and their mentors.

What is the Bose Beam Line Challenge?

Students are encouraged to form teams and propose experiments they wish to conduct using a beamline, a sophisticated section of a particle accelerator that directs high-energy particle beams (like protons) into experimental areas. The challenge offers an opportunity to explore real-world science and engineering, work with cutting-edge technology, and develop creative solutions to scientic questions. We would like our students to approach these questions related to sustained developments goals.

Why Participate?

In 2025, participants in the Bose Beam Line Challenge will have the chance to propose and possibly perform groundbreaking experiments at the beams located at the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre and the winning team(s) will get a chance to visit CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. All participants who submit eligible proposals will receive participation certicates, while top ten teams will win additional prizes, including awards for the best video and outreach proposals in both categories: School and Undergraduate.

What are Beams and Beam Line?

In particle physics, a beam is a stream of particles traveling in the same direction, often at extremely high speeds. A beamline is the path within a particle accelerator that directs these high-energy particles to specic areas, allowing scientists to study the universe’s fundamental building blocks or enabling doctors to diagnose and treat cancer.
